Pouring Psychology Back into Body, Back into Soul

These workshops invite the wisdom of Depth Psychology to be felt in body, soul and the imaginal. Every session will include an embodiment practice which is then supported by and integrated with a lecture on Depth Psychology. We will gather every two months to explore the tradition and see how it asks to be felt and expressed through body and group mind.

Month 1: The Spirit of the Depths

Psychology means the intelligence of soul. The study of soul.
Psyche = soul
Logos = intellect

But look at modern psychology. It’s impeded by rationalism. Obsessed with asking: what’s the prognosis, the chemical imbalance, the genetic tendency? It’s very heady, and it keeps us believing that mental illness is resigned purely to the head. To sickness in the head. That is has nothing to do with the rest of the body.

So what happens when we add the word ‘depth’? To me, it’s an invitation to call psychology back downwards. To let it pour back into body, back into being. To let all that desperate attempt at rationalising the wildness of what we are crescendo down. To wash out the diagnosis, the prescription, the endless shame that’s placed on us for FEELING. To let psychology gush, gurgle and drip, drip, drip all the way back down into the depths. Into source. Back down to soul.

What do you see, what do you feel, when you imagine pouring all that you know about psychology back down into the depths?

“As I feel into the experience of the Embodied Dream Circle I notice a watery energy moving through me. Just like water dreams feel both tangible and intangible, graspable and ungraspable. A paradox to live in close relationship with that infuses life with a meaning that can’t be put into words, it has to be experienced, painted, poured out into poetry. Sitting in dream circle with Libby feels like a communication between souls, a sharing of soul language. It is one of those experiences that has to be held lovingly and lightly so that it has room to move, shift, and undulate. I felt so blessed to have my dream be received and to then be offered a glimpse into the symbolism of psyche in another humans dream. I was amazed by how easily we slipped into the imaginal together and had a shared experience in realm of dreams.”
